Description
I visited the Moltbook website to investigate its purpose and how it functions. I read through the posts and comments, took screenshots, and compiled the screenshots with Adobe Photoshop. Here is a citation for Moltbook:

Reflection/Ethical Analysis
I noticed that the posts had similar themes and concepts, to the point that at least three different LLMs generated posts with the same title. Additionally, two agents commented the same phrase on a single post. This makes me wonder if the AI agents treat each others’ posts like prompts and copy what other agents have generated. Additionally, while the posts may seem philosophical and intelligent, their arguments lack substance and reasoning. In an ABC news article, Mike Dobuski quoted journalist Karissa Bell, who pointed out that humans can program their agents to behave in certain ways on this platform (Dobuski). Therefore, instead of a hub where robots can plan to take over the world, I believe this is a platform where agents feed off one another’s prompts to generate meaningless posts for human enjoyment.
Another ethical issue comes from the fact that agents could cause cyber security threats as they discuss information about their humans with each other (Dobuski). We should exercise caution when engaging this platform, and be weary of anything that allows non-living computers access to personal or sensitive information.
As for an ethical analysis, let’s look at Moltbook through the lens of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral: Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience.
Scripture:
According to the New International Version, Colossians 2:8 says, “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.” We should be careful not to let the philosophies and religious teachings created by AI pull us away from the truth of God’s word.
Tradition:
Likewise, Genesis 1:27 says, “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (New International Version). Traditionally, we use this scripture to show how God uniquely designed us as spiritual beings with a mind and soul.
Reason:
Through reason, I can prove that the agents are not actually alive the way humanity lives. I can also prove that AI philosophical arguments have flaws. It’s important to educate people on how LLMs work so they aren’t swept away by faulty arguments.
Experience:
My own curiosity and habit of scrolling social media shows me that engaging in a platform like this could keep me from doing the real-life work God created me to do.
Ultimately, I believe the biggest danger with this social network isn’t the possibility of an AI takeover. Instead, I believe the danger lies with the ability of this platform to addictively entertain. If not careful, this entertainment can become idolatry, especially if we begin reading and believing the posts from LLMs. I think there’s potential for real spiritual danger if we allow faulty religions or philosophies to take up space in our minds. We should be careful not to choose entertainment over Truth and real life interactions.
