I made this infographic by using Canva.

Artifact & Description

The following set of screenshots represent my process of creating the “My Journey with AI” webpage image using Freepik’s AI assistant. The next set of screenshots represent my attempt to recreate the same image at a different time. These screenshots are annotated with my observations throughout the processes.

Description

I used Freepik’s AI Assistant tool to edit a graphic from their website. The feature successfully used my prompts to generate changes to the image. When I attempted to replicate this process, the AI Assistant seemed to have difficulties remembering some of my prompts. I believe this shows that it responds most effectively to specific prompts instead of vague commands. I ended with a similar photo to the one I’d been trying to replicate, but not an identical one.  Perhaps if I had been more specific throughout the prompting process, I would have had more accuracy sooner and with less promptings. I compiled the screenshots together using Adobe Photoshop.

Reflection/Ethical Analysis

The AI Assistant feature on Freepik helped me save time on my webpage image. What may have taken fifteen minutes to create on Photoshop (factoring in time trying to find the perfect font style and figuring out how to change the wall color) took only a few seconds with this AI feature. The program made some mistakes, such as the occasional unresponsiveness to prompts and forgetting previous instructions. In future projects, I should tap into my creative writing abilities and graphic design knowledge to be more precise with my prompts. I believe these soft skills and my human judgment will help ensure that I get my desired results.

Personally, I don’t see a problem with someone using an application like this to quickly edit photos, as long as they display agency and take responsibility for any imperfections within the image. Users should also be aware that graphics edited by the AI Assistant will have more imperfections than if they manually edited their graphics in Photoshop. Ultimately, I believe it’s important to consider whether people who use this application are sacrificing human creativity and control of their design for convenience. God gave humanity amazing gifts and abilities (see Exodus 35:31-33). Therefore, it’s important that people steward their gifts well and keep them from becoming replaced by machinery.
